Project Case Studies
Royal Victoria Docks Watersports Centre (RVDWC)
The RVDWC provides opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate safely in a variety of water based activities.
The idea is to provide young people and youth offenders with the opportunity to get involved in watersports such as sailing, kayaking, wakeboarding and water skiing, which will build their confidence and skills and improve their employability. The project also has excellent disabled access so that all levels of ability can participate.
A2E finance was used to purchase a 250sqm floating pontoon, a new disabled accessible ferry - which also has facilities for wheelchair people to drive it, 6 Omega sailing boats and 12 new Optimists sailing boats for younger people (aged 6-11yrs). The money was also used to make modifications to the facilities at RVDWC to improve disabled access.
Kevin Ellis, Centre Manager, has been delighted with the support the A2E programme has been able to offer. ?The wonderful thing about this funding is we have been able to make investments which have increased our usage and earning potential of the centre. We have even been able to generate further income by hiring out the pontoon and boat for Royal Victoria Dock events. This has allowing us to take on more staff and therefore run more sessions so more people can benefit. I am also delighted to be able to offer such excellent facilities to those with disabilities. Many parents can not believe their children are the same people they are so animated.?
