MK Hair Studio and Academy

The Cutting Edge of Business Advice

Mucktaru Kargbo set up his barbering salon, MK Hair Studio and Academy, in July 2004 with some planning, development and financial advice from Enterprise Enfield.

Enterprise Enfield offer advice and guidance to SMEs and are supported by the Gateway to Growth project, managed under Urban Futures? Business Umbrella.

A year into the business Mucktaru spotted a gap in the market and wanted to expand into barber training. He approached business adviser, Chrystelle Benkhelil, at Enterprise Enfield to help him establish a brand new barbering training company, Mass Kuts Ltd.

Through European funding from the SBGG project, Chrystelle was able to help Mucktaru set up his new company and advised him on how to calculate the cost of his barbering courses. She coached him in effective negotiation methods, organisation, systems management and personal development and has helped him create a brand image to strengthen his marketing.

Mass Kuts now offers a range of new barbering and African hair art courses. Mucktaru has secured sponsorship from an American clipper company and is working with Habia, an organisation developing NVQs in barbering to develop their course content, represent them at shows and train their students. He has also been approached by ITV to appear on ?Trust me, I?m a Beauty Therapist?, training celebrities in the fine craft of barbering.

Mucktaru says, ?I know you can never underestimate the value of good businesses advice and support, I would never have been able to develop the new barbering training business so effectively if I had not been able to access the advice and support from my adviser, Chrystelle.?

Chrystelle Benkhelil has been nominated for the IBA (Institute of Business Advisers), Business Adviser of the Year Awards 2006.
