Jamait Al-Nissa (JAN)
Jamait Al-Nissa (JAN) was established in 1990. The organization is a registered Charity that works specifically with women from BME communities primarily from the borough of Haringey. However, we also work with clients from the surrounding boroughs of Walthamstow, Enfield and Barnet.
Our organization provides a range of services to clients they include health projects, training projects which will support women to enter the employment market as well as continue further education. Projects also include ESOL, NVQ in Design and Garment Making, job search and a safe secure space for women to meet with others who are facing some of the same barriers.
Within the London borough of Haringey it is estimated that some 41% of the population are made up from a variety of BME communities. The area has high levels of unemployment as well as poor housing. We also work with the children of these women and provide a cr?che so that women are able to undertake a variety of courses at our centre. We have a proven track record in service delivery and work closely with both other voluntary organizations as well as statutory projects.
We provide:
- Vocational training in Industrial Manufacturing Products from Textiles at NVQ levels one and two.
- We offer IT training that leads to the European Computer Driving License. For women are unable to attend formal classes we offer an informal drop in IT facility. We do this in Partnership with Delta Club and the Enfield Enterprise Agency.
- We provide childcare facilities since many of our clients have children and without this provision would not be able to take up training.
- We provide pastoral care to address a range of issues including health and housing benefits.
- Support for women who are victims of Domestic Violence as well as Mental Health.
- Support bereaved women.
