Waltham Forest Employment and Skills Action Partnership

Local Area Agreements (LAAs) offer a new approach to the way local authorities and their partner agencies can use government funding to deliver on priority projects on both local and national levels. The aim is to strengthen local partnerships by pooling and targeting resources.

Waltham Forest has decided to pilot this way of working. Their final proposal has been approved by the Local Strategic Partnership Executive and submitted to Government Office For London. It is hoped that the plans will be implemented by 1st April 2006.

Four key themes are at the heart of the submission:

  • Healthier Communities and Older People
  • Safer and Stronger Communities
  • Children and Young People
  • Economic Development and Enterprise

This last point prioritises unemployment in the most deprived areas, those areas identified as such by the Better Neighbourhood Initiative. This neighbourhood-based approach will be known as WorkNet. The Employment and Skills Action Partnership will be looking at developing detailed proposals over the coming months.
